Made; is proud to partner with Stuart Hall’s BSU in organizing a food drive to benefit the @brafb 🥰 Starting today through this weekend, we will serve as the downtown drop off point for the drive. Canned goods and other non- perishables will be collected as well as cold hard cash. Through the magic of BRAFB & their amazing partners, just $1 can provide 3 meals, every little bit counts, so let’s go! Everyone who donates at the shop will be entered in a drawing for a $25 gift card to take place on Small Business Saturday. As always, thank you for supporting our community in so many ways! “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

Inspired by basic concepts in American government & US history that I’ve had the honor of teaching for 20 years, my experience as a Veteran, and, most importantly, as a human being just trying her best to help make those American ideals so eloquently stated over 250 years ago a reality, I’m extremely proud to present the first design in our new Civic Virtuositees line.

While the founders were attempting to correct mistakes made with our first government under the Articles of Confederation, the quest for a better nation did not stop in 1787. Today, especially in a world of 30 second TikToks, it is imperative that we finally take the time to acknowledge and accept the overwhelming complexities and contradictions of American history…and keep going.

Democracy is a verb. We have been, and always will be, stronger together (that’s why historically many of those who have held or currently hold power work so hard to keep us divided- whether by race, $$$, geography, religion, etc.)

Y’all, it’s beyond time to move beyond ridiculous party lines and endless labels. The arc of the moral universe doesn’t bend towards justice by itself- we all need to do our part- every. single. day.- together in our beloved communities, and in the world.

Persistence, not perfection, required.

Mornin’, Made; Fam! 🥰 Between my inherent dread of social media and summer break, it’s been a minute! For those of you new here, I’m Corrie, founder and leader of Team Made; here in the beautiful historic downtown of Staunton, VA. We moved here from Norfolk (I see you, 757 😜) after falling in love with the city over many years of visiting the Valley to camp nearby and I can hardly believe our little shop dedicated to local art and independent creatives nationwide, will be celebrating year 12 (!!!) at the end of August. Our oldest will be coming home from 4 months of adventuring in Peru on Monday before his next season starts at Snowshoe, and our baby is about to move into her 1st apt as a sophomore at JMU (Go Dukes!) So proud! Meanwhile, I will be entering my TWENTIETH year (WTactualF!?!) of teaching US History and Govt this school year, and Lex and I just had the pleasure of turning a conference he had to attend in Ann Arbor into an extended road trip by maxing camping and googling best free things to do in: fill in the blank area. Discovered so many hidden gems from Cleveland to Detroit and beyond, which was especially inspiring to me as I continue to research and educate myself on bringing more public art to Staunton- did I mention I was just elected to City Council last November?

As always, so much love in my heart and a big thanks to our amazing team here at the shop who holds it all down, and special shout out to one of my students who interned with me at the very beginning of summer and helped with the windows after I pulled my hamstring in the annual faculty kickball game (still safe on base though! Go Red team!) We’re adding a part time position soon, so stay tuned (or reach out, I love some initiative) if you want to join us on Bev St.

Yes, times are wild right now but one of the best things we can do is to keep bringing the light everyday to share with everyone ✨🙏🏽✨
